Swim Meets

Swim meets are a fun and exciting part of the season where swimmers have the opportunity to compete, improve, and support their teammates.

Putnam Sharks competes against other teams in the greater Jacksonville area. Most away meets are hosted at neighborhood or community pools, often located within residential communities or HOA neighborhoods.

Meet locations vary each week and will be shared in advance via text & email, along with directions and arrival details. Most meets are within a reasonable driving distance from Palatka, and families often coordinate carpools when helpful.

Home Meets

Home meets are held at our local pool on Saturdays and are a great way to get familiar with how everything works.

  • Typically start in the morning

  • Families help with setup, timing, and takedown

  • Swimmers have a designated team area to gather between events

  • Coaches & volunteers guide swimmers through warm-ups and races

Away Meets

Away meets are hosted by other teams, usually at neighborhood or community (HOA) pools in the greater Jacksonville area.

  • Travel is required (location shared ahead of time)

  • Seating and space may be limited

  • Bring chairs, shade, and plenty of water

  • Team areas are often more spread out than at home meets

  • Families often coordinate carpools for away meets when helpful.

Getting Ready to Race

Before each meet, swimmers are organized and prepared for their events.

  • Swimmers often use a provided Sharpie to write their event numbers on their arm or leg

  • Teammates or parents may write swimmers’ last names on their backs for easy identification

  • Coaches and experienced parents help make sure swimmers know where to be and when

  • If your swimmer is new, don’t worry—experienced parents and teammates will help guide you through the process, including how to mark events and get ready for each race.

Parent Participation

Swim meets rely on parent volunteers to run smoothly, and participation is an important part of being on the team.

  • Each family is expected to help at meets

  • Volunteer roles include timing, setup, and takedown (especially at home meets)

If you’re new to the team, you’re not expected to volunteer at your first few meets unless you feel ready. We encourage new families to take time to observe and get comfortable.

Experienced parents and team leaders will guide you through the process and help you learn each role when you’re ready to jump in.
