The Putnam Sharks Swim Club operates from February through October each year, and running three athletic seasons (Spring, Summer and Fall). We are open to any Putnam County children ages 4-18. Practices are primarily held at the Putnam Aquatics Center, located at 1209 Westover Drive, Palatka FL 32177. During the Spring and Fall seasons we also utilize the Ravine Gardens State Park for drylands and endurance running activities.
Our club’s purpose is to offer the children of Putnam County the opportunity to develop and enhance their own swimming abilities, learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship, and enable them to participate in a sport that they love. During the 2017 seasons, our numbers grew to a record high of 80 children participating in the program and held two home swim meets at the Putnam Aquatics Center. These meets were a great success having approximately 450 people in attendance, consisting of both our swim families and visitors from neighboring counties.
The Sharks hold four to five practices a week during the year, depending on the season. During the Summer months most of the swimmers arrive at the pool early in the morning before the sun arises in order to get in a full and successful workout. The Putnam Sharks Swim Club is an active member of the First Coast Summer Swim League, a non-profit organization comprised of 10 community swim programs from Clay, St. Johns, Duval and Putnam counties who compete at dual and tri meets throughout the summer season. All 10 teams come together at the end of the season to compete at a championship meet which is held at the Cecil Field swimming complex in Jacksonville. There are approximately 1000 swimmers in the league and conservatively 2,500 parents, siblings, extended family members, and volunteers attending this massive swim meet. In most cases, despite these teams having far greater numbers, we proudly hold our own, boasting both record times and excellent technical skill.
